As I sit here in front of the computer on the morning after the second installment of What The Funk!?, I’m realizing there’s nothing I can type that’s capable of capturing the awesomeness of this festival. No words can convey the joy that this festival instills in the heart of sour loving beer geeks across the land. If you were there, you know exactly what I mean. If you weren’t, you truly missed out on what has already become one of the nation’s premier sour, wild, barrel-aged, funk fests.
WTF!? Vol. 2 coincided with the Craft Brewers Conference, which brought more than 8,000 brewing industry professionals to the Mile High City for a week of seminars, a trade show and dozens of side events, before wrapping up at Friday’s World Beer Cup gala and awards ceremony. Thursday’s WTF!? was held at the EXDO Event Center in Denver’s River North District, which in addition to a multitude of delicious world-class beers, also offered up food, music and fun in a comfortable, relaxed environment.
The 3-page long beer list (pictured below) was a dream lineup that brought together more than 150 of the very best wild beer offerings in the world. The 60+ attending breweries were laid out around EXDO in alphabetical order, making it easy to navigate and bounce between popular draws like Cascade, Cigar City, Evil Twin and Jester King, while also allowing guests the opportunity to seek out and explore the tasty limited releases from young breweries like Ale Apothecary, The Commons, The Rare Barrel and Wicked Weed.
Chad Yakobson and his Crooked Stave team once again played the role of host brewery and organizers and they absolutely nailed it. Our hats go off to the many employees and volunteers and the phenomenal job they did before, during and after the event.
